Should congress apologize for America's ancestors enslaving blacks? (I saw a news special on it, i am curious to how...
58This is a very tricky and touchy subject. Before I give my answer I must start by saying that I believe that slavery was wrong. It doesn't matter what color the skin, people are people. They bleed the same, eat the same and live the same. It doesn't matter what color you are, there are bad people of every race, religion and sex. No one should be singled out for anything just because they are not what people think they should be. Now, saying that, I do not think that congress needs to apologize for the slaves. First of all, it wasn't the current congress who ruled slavery legal. Second, many political leaders have appoligized since the movement to end slavery. Finally, congress has made up for many of past mistakes by giving minorities the same oportunities that everyone has. I do belive that the apology has been given in all the things I just mentioned. I do, however, have to say that even with all the changes in the world, there will always be those who think of less of someone just because they are different. This can be anyone from the nerd in the class to the indian in the store. It is very sad, but I think it will be around for a long long time.
